More Than Makeup: It Was Always About People
When I look back at my journey in the makeup industry, I realize that it was never only about makeup.
Yes, technique, products, and results matter. However, what shaped me the most were the people I worked with. Every woman I met brought something different. Every face carried a story.
Over time, I understood that makeup is not just a visual transformation. It is a human experience.
Connection Changed Everything
One of the first and most important things this industry taught me is the power of connection.
Through working with women, I didn’t just learn how to enhance their features. I learned how to listen, how to observe, and how to feel what is present in the moment.
That connection was not always easy. Sometimes it was light and effortless. Other times it was more complex, even challenging.
However, through every experience, I began to understand myself better.
Because every interaction with another person reflects something back to you.
Energy Is Always Present
I strongly believe that energy plays a major role in this work.
When two people come together during a makeup session, it is not just about applying products. There is an exchange happening.
The way a woman sees herself, the way she feels in her own skin, and the energy she brings into that moment all influence the result.
And through that process, I often found myself asking a deeper question.
How do I see myself?
This work pushed me to reflect, to grow, and to stay connected to who I am beyond the industry.
Every Woman Taught Me Something
Over the years, I met many different personalities.
Some women came in with a beautiful, open energy. Others arrived tense, controlled, or unsure. Some were excited and confident. Others needed reassurance.
There were moments of complete trust, but also moments of doubt.
When a client tries to control every step, it often comes from a lack of trust in herself. And when that trust is missing, control becomes a way to feel safe.
However, I learned that this can shift.
When connection is built, when trust is created, the entire experience changes. The client relaxes. She lets go. She allows herself to be seen.
And that is when the real transformation happens.
From Clients to Meaningful Relationships
One of the most beautiful things this career gave me is the relationships I built.
Even though this work may seem technical, it has a very personal dimension. We work closely with people. We see their skin, their expressions, their emotions.
What may seem like small details often carry deeper meaning.
Through this process, I created not only clients, but friendships and meaningful connections. These relationships became one of the most valuable parts of my journey.
The Challenge of “I Don’t Know What I Want”
Even after 20 years, there are still moments that feel challenging.
One of the most common situations is when a client does not know what she wants.
At first, this can feel unclear. However, I learned to guide the process.
I ask questions. I observe. I help her understand what feels right for her.
And sometimes, when there is still uncertainty, I ask for trust.
I ask if she can allow me to create what I see as the best version for her face, her features, and her energy.
Because in those moments, I rely on something deeper.
Technique Evolves, Intuition Leads
Of course, technique is essential. It builds the foundation of everything we do.
Over the years, my technique has evolved and improved. However, what truly guides my work today is intuition.
When I start working, I do not always know the exact final result. I allow the face to guide me.
Each feature, each expression, each detail creates direction.
This intuitive process is something that only comes with experience. It cannot be rushed.
Confidence Comes with Time
This journey also taught me confidence.
Not the kind of confidence that comes from perfection, but the one that comes from experience.
With time, I learned to trust my work, my decisions, and my process.
And I noticed something important.
When I feel satisfied with my work, the client feels it too.
That energy translates directly into the result.
A Constant Exchange
Makeup is not a one-sided process.
There is always an exchange.
We give something, and we receive something.
We work with the skin, with the face, with the presence of another person. It is a close and real interaction.
Through that, I learned more about people. But more importantly, I learned more about myself.
Final Thought
After 20 years in the makeup industry, I can say this with certainty.
This work is not only about beauty.
It is about connection.
It is about trust.
It is about understanding both others and yourself.
Every face brings something new. Every experience adds depth.
And in the end, what stays with you is not just what you created.
It is who you became in the process.
